Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame
Jimmie Condon participated in three sports at Gonzaga on three levels. After his arrival from Gonzaga High School in 1914, Condon competed in football, basketball and baseball. In addition, he was team captain of each sport in turn, and when the athletes felt a financial crunch, he was the volunteer coach of all three teams. As a player, Condon’s impact was probably greatest in football and baseball; he was a two-way punter and halfback in football and a pitcher and outfielder in baseball. A university publication of the era applauded his “steady coaching, his generalship on the field, his ability to inspire confidence…the departure of Jimmie Condon left a hole that, it was feared, would be impossible to fill.” Condon was valedictorian of his 1918 class. He later graduated from Creighton University Medical School and practiced in Spokane.
