Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame
Following a spectacular 1977 season, Larry Patterson was named Gonzaga’s first baseball first-team All-American by the American Association of Baseball Coaches. Patterson, who came to the university by way of Seattle’s Ingram High School and Spokane Falls Community College, was also named the Northern Pacific Conference most valuable player for 1977, after his .448 batting average ranked among the top 10 nationally. Patterson, who divided his playing time among first base, third base and catching, hit .330 as a junior and then put together a senior season that included a 25-game hitting streak. In setting seven Gonzaga batting records, he had one stretch of 18 hits in 20 at-bats, including 14 straight hits. As a senior, he led conference hitters in batting average, runs batted in, doubles, triples and hits. He signed professionally with the Seattle Mariners.
