Don Baldwin was the epitome of dependability in his three seasons as starting point guard for Gonzaga basketball teams during the 1978-81 seasons. His excellence as a ball handler is statistically apparent. He committed just 30 turnovers in 26 games as a junior and 36 turnovers in 27 games as a senior. He played an average of 36 minutes per game in his fourth season, executed 30 steals to all but negate the infrequent turnovers, led team scoring in a dozen games and netted a per-game average of 14.1 points for a team-leading season total of 374 points. He registered 92 assists in the 1980-81 season for a career total of 313, a Gonzaga record at that time. An all-starter in three sports at Idaho Falls High School, Baldwin capped his collegiate career as Gonzaga’s first All-Conference first-team selection in the West Coast Conference.
