Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame
In the early 1950’s, when Coach Hank Anderson formed a basketball booster group that would evolve into the Gonzaga Bulldog Club, Jake Triesch was a charter member and an enthusiastic one. “The idea was to improve attendance, work on ticket sales, and just generally increase interest, of course, but the camaraderie of the group was important to us,” Anderson explained years later. “Jake was a quiet sort of a fellow, unassuming, but he was always there for Gonzaga, a really good friend. He made some road trips with the team and just helped in any way he could.” Triesch, who was born in Nezperce, Idaho, spent most of his adult life in Spokane and operated a grocery on Grand Boulevard for 49 years. He participated in Gonzaga Bulldog Club activities and supported them generously for Coach Anderson’s successors over a span of four decades, until his death in 1985.
