Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame
Houston Stockton played football for Gonzaga during the sport’s “Golden Age” and he was outstanding in that era of great athletes. A triple-threat halfback, the Parma, Idaho, native’s offensive skill overshadowed what many felt was hit strongest suit, line backing on defense. In 1924, Stockton’s senior season, Gonzaga was undefeated and he was All-American honorable mention. Examples of his great games about: in a 20-14 win over Montana in mud and rain he gained 310 yards on 30 carries, passed for 65 yards and ran back five kicks, one for 35 yards, another for 25; in a 14-12 win over Washington State, he completed nine straight passes, with the fat, blunt football of that day, two of them for touchdowns, and kicked the vital extra points. Stockton played in the fledging National Football League from 1925 through 1929, mostly with the Frankford Yellowjackets. He was a charter member of the Inland Empire Sports Hall of Fame.
