Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame
A winner of four letters in baseball and three in basketball, Jerry Rogers helped Gonzaga to consecutive Big Sky Conference baseball titles from 1971-73. Twice the team advanced to NCAA District competition. A dangerous leadoff hitter, Rogers stole 101 bases in 170 games, collected 181 hits, scored 121 runs and had a career batting average of .317. He was regarded by his Gonzaga teammates as a creative athlete – he made things happen. The Sacramento, Calif., native was a get-the-ball-and-go guard in basketball and a superior center fielder in baseball. But it was on offense in baseball where Rogers became most creative. His speed would turn a close play into a hit, or perhaps a throwing error, and a couple of pitches later Jerry would be standing on second or third with a stolen base.
