Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame
It would be difficult, if not impossible, to assess the impact on young people that Billy Frazier had in 40 years of coaching. Inspirational, competitive and emotional were adjectives tagged on Frazier over his many successful seasons at Gonzaga Prep. “Toughness tempered with love and humanity,” is the way one observer put it. Frazier came out of Moscow, Idaho, High School as an all-star in football and basketball. After a year at the University of Idaho, he came to Gonzaga and developed into one of the university’s better quarterbacks in its football heyday. Frazier coached six seasons at Mead High School before arriving at Gonzaga Prep in 1939. Over the next 34 seasons his team won 15 city football championships and as many baseball titles. He was named to the Inland Empire Sports Hall of Fame in 1975 and the Idaho Sports Hall of Fame in 1979.
