SCOUTING SANTA CLARA:
- The Broncos are 5-11 so far this season and are in search of their first conference win with a 0-4 WCC mark through four matches. So far this season, Santa Clara has lost eight three-set matches, and currently it has yet to win a set in WCC play after having been swept by San Francisco, Pacific, LMU and Pepperdine.
- Santa Clara averages 12.2 kills per set hitting .175 to go along with 11.4 assists per set. Defensively, the Broncos average 15.7 digs per set and 1.8 blocks per set while limiting their opponents to .230 hitting.
- Three Broncos average at least two kills per set, led by Michelle Shaffer with 2.65 kills per set hitting .205. Allison Kantor and Kamrin Caoili add 2.40 and 2.22 kills per set, respectively. Chloe Loreen leads Santa Clara with 3.80 digs per set while Taylor Odom adds 1.29 blocks per set.
- Santa Clara was picked to finish sixth in the West Coast Conference, four votes behind Gonzaga.
MILESTONE ALERT: SMITH ECLIPSES 2,000 CAREER ASSISTS
Senior setter Faith Smith surpassed the 2,000 career assists mark on Saturday at San Diego. The San Diego native finished the match with a team-high 14 assists, and she now has 2,005 career assists, good for fourth in program history during the rally scoring era. Smith is now 427 assists shy of third all-time.
