
Volleyball drops four set match at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas- Gonzaga Volleyball (5-11, 0-4 Pac-12) dropped a four set match at Texas State (7-9, 2-3 Pac-12) on Thursday. The Bobcats won the first set 25-16 before GU tied the match with a 25-17 set. Texas State won the final two sets 25-20 and 25-21.
Despite the loss, Claire Wagstaff stood out with 22 kills across the four sets. This tied her own performance against Boise State for the most kills in a four match game by any Pac-12 player this season. Wagstaff hit for a .271 average while adding three block assists for a total of 23.5 points.
Gonzaga gave away extra points in the first set by hitting just .072 and giving up seven attack errors to give Texas State a brief lead. The Bulldogs responded by taking the second set behind two separate runs of 6-1 and 5-0. Gonzaga hit for a match high 17 kills in the set and gave away just two points on attack errors.
The Bobcats continued their efficient hitting to take the third set behind a 75% sideout rate. The Zags battled to the very end of the match, keeping the game alive on a video review of the 24-21 point in the fourth that could have potentially ended the match before Texas State secured the final point in the match immediately after.
