GU Volleyball comes up short in four sets at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah- Gonzaga Volleyball (5-9, 0-2 Pac-12) dropped Saturday's match at Utah State (2-10, 1-1 Pac-12) in four sets after winning the first set 27-25. Utah State won the ensuing three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-14.
The Zags had a very efficient first set, hitting for a huge .769 percentage at first media timeout while taking an early set lead. The set evened back out and was tied seven separate times, including at each point between 21 and 24, but the Bulldogs were able to win in extra points with 18 team kills. GU finished set with .467 hitting percentage, led by 8 kills in the set from Claire Wagstaff.
Utah State evened the game by winning the second set behind 15 kills and a .387 hitting percentage. The Zags gave away the third set by having the same amount of attack errors as kills, while the Aggies had 16 kills. Utah State took the fourth set by scoring a point on 92% of their sideouts (13 of 14) to close out the game.
Wagstaff had a game high 22.5 points, scoring 18 kills and adding two aces and five block assists. Dani Clewis had another double-double with 32 assists and a team high 11 digs.
Gonzaga Volleyball will host their first ever home Pac-12 match on Thursday when they take on Colorado State in the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre.
