SPOKANE, Wash. – On a night where Gonzaga honored longtime head coach Einar Thorarinsson after his retirement last November after 23 seasons, the Zags played No. 3 Washington in front of 1800-plus fans on Monday night, playing tough, but falling 3-0 to the Huskies.
The Zags were only able to fire four shots on the night, with their best chance coming at 38:25 when Jake Kempf lined one up on the UW keeper. The Zags defense was solid for the most part though, allowing a deceiving 23 shots, with just 10 on goal and even fewer, aside from the three goals, represented quality scoring chances.
"Washington is always one of the best teams in the county, regardless of their rank," Gonzaga head coach Paul Meehan said. "The soccer was good for the most part tonight, but we need to be great on a more consistent basis. I expect that Friday night."
Ben Willis made seven saves in goal for the Zags. Quinn Liebmann, Joe Corner, and Jack Rembe joined Kempf with shots.
The Zags stay at home, hosting UC Davis on Friday afternoon at 3 pm. Live links are available at GoZags.com.
