- Gonzaga and Portland meet for the 66th time overall and the 33rd time in Spokane.
- The Bulldogs are 4-0 against the Pilots under head coach Diane Nelson and are currently on a 10-match win streak.
- Gonzaga has won 18 of the last 25 matches. The Bulldogs have strung together several win streaks over the course of the series, but the longest to date was a 13-match win streak from 1991-97.

SCOUTING PORTLAND:
- The Pilots were picked to finish eighth in the WCC after finishing the 2017 season 15-15 overall with a 6-12 mark in the WCC. Portland started the 2018 season fast, racing out to a program-best 12-0 start with notable wins over San Diego State, Hawai'i and Boise State. The Pilots received votes in the Top 25 poll on both Sept. 10 and Sept. 17 before starting 0-2 in WCC play.
- Portland averages 13.18 kills per set hitting .267 to go along with 12.51 assists, 14.50 digs and 2.05 blocks per set. The Pilots are led by Reghan Pukis with 3.50 kills per set, good for 129th in the nation, hitting at a .294 clip. Three other players average at least 2.0 kills per set: Shayla Hoeft, 2.88 hitting .356; Izzy Guzik, 2.57 hitting .187; and Katie Barker, 2.04 hitting .360.
- Defensively, Portland is led by Carey Williams with 4.40 digs per set, good for 125th nationally. Barker adds 1.12 blocks per set.
- Hoeft was named the season's first WCC Player of the Week after helping the Pilots to an undefeated opening weekend. The junior middle blocker led the team in kills (38), hitting percentage (.457) and blocks (10).
PENNER ON POINT
Though the last weekend did not go Gonzaga's way with two road losses, sophomore outside hitter Sarah Penner shined offensively for the Zags. She finished with 32 kills in eight total sets to average 4.00 kills per set, 1.75 kills per set more than the next best Bulldog. She was also swinging at a more accurate rate as she hit .228 for the week with just 14 errors. Penner also pitched in defensively as she finished with 2.75 digs per set to rank third on the squad.
