SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University sophomore Emily Eckmann has been named to the 2011 West Coast Conference Women's Soccer All-Academic first team.
Redshirt junior Emma Dolcetti, junior Morgan Manchester, senior Caitlyn Salo and senior Katie Spangenberg all earned honorable mention accolades.
"It is great to see these student-athletes have the same commitment on the field and in the classroom," stated head coach Amy Edwards after hearing the news. "We hold ourselves to a high standard in the classroom on our program and these accolades just confirm how dedicated our players are."
Eckmann carries a 3.73 GPA in human physiology. As a midfield on the Bulldogs squad, she finished with 13 shots, and scored one goal and tallied one assist this year. Her goal and assist both came in Gonzaga's 4-0 victory at Eastern Washington University, Sept. 10.
Dolcetti, a forward for Gonzaga, holds a GPA 3.37 in criminal justice. She scored a team-leading five goals for the Bulldogs this season and notched two assists for 12 total points. Dolcetti is a member of the Executive Committee of SAAC as the Promotion Chair.
Manchester, a defender, holds a 3.55 GPA in biology and Salo, also a defender this year, carries a 3.60 GPA as a graduate student pursuing her MBA. Both Manchester and Salo helped the Zags secure seven shutouts this year; third highest in school history. Manchester was credited with two assists, while Salo is also a member of the Executive Committee of SAAC.
Spangenberg carries a 3.85 GPA in finance. A spark off the bench for Gonzaga, Spangenberg averaged 30.5 minutes per match and scored one goal this year. This is her second-straight year earning All-Academic honorable mention accolades.
