CHICAGO - Gonzaga University and the University of Detroit played to a scoreless men's soccer tie Sunday in the Fr. Leo Sweeney Jesuit Cup hosted by Loyola University.
The match, as was Gonzaga's 3-2 season-opening win over host Loyola on Friday, was played at Concordia University. Installation of new field turf at Loyola's soccer complex wasn't completed in time for the tournament.

Gonzaga keeper Vito Higgins picked up his third career shutout on Sunday and his first of the season. His two previous shutouts came as a freshman in 2003, Higgins sitting out last season with a viral condition. Higgins made five saves, while Sasha Boskovic in the Detroit net had three.
The Bulldogs held a 19-11 edge in shots, including 11-5 in the second half and 3-1 in the second overtime.
Each team banged iron early in the second half. Scott Campbell hit the crossbar for the Bulldogs at 50:52 and Alex Kawalit hit the goal post for Detroit at 56:30.
Gonzaga will face the University of Kentucky on Friday and Iona University on Saturday at the Stephen Hensor/Joe Zaher Classic hosted by Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore.
