Sam Hess Named WCC Player Of The Week

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University senior catcher Sam Hess was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week after the Bulldogs won their fifth straight WCC series to end the regular-season at 26-25-1, 14-16 in the WCC. Hess went 6-for-12 from the plate as the Bulldogs won Saturday and Sunday games against No. 26 Pepperdine to end the season at Spokane Falls Community College. Hess had two big home runs on the weekend, a three-run shot that helped carry the Bulldogs to a 8-5 Saturday win and a solo shot that tied the game at 7-7 on Sunday prior the Bulldogs winning 9-8. Hess drove home six runs on the weekend and scored three runs.
The senior catcher finished the season hitting .301 as he caught 51 of 52 Bulldogs games this season including 29 straight innings earlier this season in a doubleheader against Portland. Hess finished third on the team with 62 hits on the season.
