Gonzaga Baseball announces addition of three new staff members

SPOKANE, Wash.- Gonzaga Baseball Head Coach Mark Machtolf announced the additions of three new Bulldogs staff members on Wednesday ahead of GU's first season in the Pac-12.
Justin Jacobs returns to Gonzaga Baseball as the new Director of Player Acquisition and the Catching Coordinator. Cam Hale will join the Zags in a newly created position as the Director of Analytics and Pitching Development. Noah Meffert will stay in Spokane as an Assistant Coach after wrapping up his collegiate career last season as an honorable mention all-conference player while serving as a starting outfielder for the Zags.
Jacobs returns to Gonzaga after spending the 2026 season as the recruiting coordinator for the University of Washington. He spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons as an assistant coach for GU. Jacobs served as a coach in the Texas Rangers minor league system for four seasons prior to his initial coaching stint in Spokane, highlighted by helping the Hickory Crawdads to the top of the High-A South Atlantic League Standings in 2023.
Prior to his time in Hickory, Jacobs served as a development coach with Low-A Down East Wood in 2022 after a brief stint with the ACL Rangers in 2021. Jacobs played two seasons in the Texas Rangers organization in 2017 and 2018, signing as a free agent after the conclusion of his senior season with Gonzaga. During his time playing for the Zags from 2015-2017, Jacobs compiled a career .312 batting average over 154 starts while racking up 182 hits and 97 runs batted in. A two-time graduate of Gonzaga, Jacobs earned a degree in Sport Management in 2017 before returning in 2020 to earn a Masters in Organizational Leadership while serving as a graduate assistant coach.
Cam Hale joins the Zags after serving as the Director of Baseball Operations and Analytics for the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod League for the past two years. Hale also served as the director of pitching development for the Whitecaps for the 2026 season, leading Brewster to the second lowest ERA (3.52) and batting average against (.222) in the summer league.
Hale served as the Director of Pitching Development at his alma mater Keystone College in 2026 after previously serving as the Director of Baseball Operations and the Recruiting Coordinator from 2024 to 2026. Hale helped lead the Giants to back-to-back conference championships as a player in 2023 and 2024. A two-time graduate of Keystone, Hale completed his Masters of Science, Sports and Leadership Management in May 2026 while serving on the coaching staff.
Noah Meffert will begin his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Zags after concluding his playing career in the spring. Meffert started 53 games for Gonzaga while hitting for a .314 batting average with 70 hits. He stole a team high 8 bases while scoring 49 runs and driving in another 47 runners. Meffert had 15 doubles and 11 home runs while collecting a .982 fielding percentage in the outfield. Prior to his stop at GU, the Coupeville, Washington native played a year at Point Loma Nazarene after graduating from George Fox University with a degree in Organizational Communications. Meffert's time at George Fox saw him named as a two time All-Region selection and a 2024 Division III All-American at Shortstop.
