Baseball Signs Four For 2002 Season

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head baseball coach Steve Hertz announced the signing of four players for the Bulldogs 2002 baseball season. Signing with the defending West Coast Conference Coast Division Champions are Kemp Quackenbush, Grant Zumerly, Jackson Brennan, and Steve Hare.
Quackenbush, a junior right-handed pitcher/outfielder, comes to Gonzaga after two standout seasons at Glendale (AZ) Community College. During his sophomore season, Quackenbush was an All-Region I Junior College selection after compiling a 3-2 record with a 3.05 earned run average. In the field Quackenbush hit .405 with 14 doubles and 45 RBI's as Glendale CC advanced to the finals of the Region I National Junior College Athletic Association tournament with a 42-20 record. A native of Glendale, AZ, Quackenbush played high school baseball at Deer Valley High with current Gonzaga players Danny Evans and Sean Lichter.
Zumerly, a junior infielder, comes to Gonzaga after two standout seasons at Edmonds (WA) Community College. During his sophomore season, Zumerly was an All-Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges selection as well as an All-NWAACC North selection. He ranked sixth in the NWAACC in batting with a .389 average while collecting 30 stolen bases. Zumerly helped guide Edmonds to a NWAACC North Division title and third place finish in the NWAACC Tournament with a record of 36-9. A native of Redmond, WA, Zumerly played high school baseball at Redmond High.
Brennan, a freshman infielder, comes to Gonzaga after a standout high school career at Douglas County High in Colorado. Brennan hit .490 as a senior with five home runs while earning All-League honors. Brennan is a native of Castle Rock.
Hare, a freshman right-handed pitcher, comes to Gonzaga after a standout high school career at North Central High in Spokane. Hare helped guide North Central to a second place finish in the Washington State Class 4A baseball tournament as one of the team's top pitchers. An All-Greater Spokane League selection, Hare also earned All-State honors under former Gonzaga player coach Scott Harmon.
