Women's Soccer Places Four On All-WCC Team

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University placed four players on the West Coast Conference Women's Soccer All-Conference team released today by the conference office. Sara Streufert and Claire Whitfield earned All-WCC honors after helping guide Gonzaga to one of its most productive offensive season in school history. The team set a new school record with 28 assists while falling two goals and two points shy of tying school records in those categories. Freshmen Walker Loseno and Kelly Leffel were named honorable mention selections giving Gonzaga the highest number of honorees it has had in one season.
Streufert, a senior from Spokane, earned her second straight first-team All-West Coast Conference honor after setting a school record with 13 goals and 32 points on the season. The forward finished her standout career as the best player in Gonzaga women's soccer history setting school records for goals scored, assists and points during a career. She also holds the single season goals and points totals surpassing her own record in each of her four seasons. Streufert also finished the regular season tied for the WCC lead for scoring and finished her WCC career as only the 10th player with 100 or more points (103) and 7th on the career goals scored list (43).
Whitfield earned second team All-West Coast Conference honors despite moving from the forward position her freshman season to a defender position during her sophomore year. The Bow, WA, native started 18 games for the Zags and had two assists on the season moving her into second place on the career assists chart at Gonzaga. Whitfield was a hugh part of a Gonzaga defense that allowed the fewest amount of goals in a season.
Loseno, a freshman from Renton, WA, was named an honorable mention selection after finsihing second on the Gonzaga squad with 6 goals scored and 14 total points. Her 6 goals scored rank second on the Gonzaga goals scored list for a freshman.
Leffel, a freshman from Edmonds, WA, was named an honorable mention selection after tallying 8 points on the season. Leffel started the season as a defender and moved to the forward position midway through the season compiling many of her points over the final 8 games of the season. She finished the year tied for second on the Gonzaga team with 4 assists.
For the first time in West Coast Conference history the conference had co-Players of the Year as Santa Clara's Heather Aldama and Portland's Erin Misaki split the honor. Pepperdine's Lacey Ubaldi and Santa Clara's Veronica Zepeda split Freshman of the Year accolades while Portland's Lauren Orlandos was named the conference's top defensive player. WCC Coach of the Year honors were awarded to Saint Mary's Paul Ratcliffe for the second straight season.
