Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Gonzaga baseball's 2025 season came to a close with a 16-7 loss to top-seeded San Diego at the West Coast Conference Baseball Tournament on Friday at Las Vegas Ballpark. The Toreros took a big lead in the first and never looked back as they extended their season to at least another game.
Gonzaga (26-27) threatened right away on Friday, loading the bases in the top of the first. With two outs,
Sam Stem stung a line drive that was caught by a diving Rex Watson to steal a hit and keep the Bulldogs off the board.
The momentum immediately shifted towards San Diego (26-29), who took advantage by pushing five runs across in the next half-inning. Nine Torero batters came to the plate, taking advantage of a GU error that turned three of those runs unearned.
USD added five more in the third, capped by a three-run home run from Jack Gurevitch.
Erik Hoffberg entered for GU starter
Miles Gosztola (L, 5-8) to record the final out, but the deficit was already ten. San Diego added one more in the fourth to extend their lead to 11-0.
Gonzaga recorded three consecutive doubles to lead off the fifth and score two before adding another pair in the sixth to make it 11-4. However, USD would respond with one in the sixth and two in the seventh to blow it open even further. Gurevitch clubbed his second home run of the game and third of the tournament.
Michael Cuneely threw two shutout innings, picking up a strikeout to shut down the Toreros in the seventh and eighth, as GU went to work early in the ninth looking for a miracle. The Zags continued to move through the lineup, scoring three but ultimately coming up short.
San Diego out hit Gonzaga 21-13 on Friday, as four Bulldogs notched multi-hit efforts in the season finale led by
Hudson Shupe's three.
Ty Yukumoto,
Josh Hankins, and
Jacob Wrubleski picked up two hits each in the loss.
GU finishes one game under .500 on the season, completing a 24-15 record after opening the year 2-12.
