The Zags (9-4) took the doubles point to open the day and then split the six singles matches with Harvard in the neutral site match. Each of GU's three singles wins came in straight sets.
"It was a good battle today," head coach D.J. Gurule said. "Harvard is a well-coached and competitive team. We did a great job fighting for every point and adjusting to being outside. All in all, it was a great team win. We are looking forward to playing Fresno State on Friday.
In doubles play, the duo of Nevada Apollo and Ashleigh Jacobs dominated their match on No. 3 with a 6-0 win to put the Zags in position. The remaining two matches were as close as they could be, but on No. 1, Sophie Whittle and Graciela Rosas, ranked No. 52 in the nation, held off Harvard in a tiebreaker, 7-6(3) to take the point. GU's Haruna Tsuruta and Alex Bourguignon were tied 6-6 in their match on No. 2 when it went unfinished as the point was clinched.
Harvard tied the score at 1-1 and 2-2 before GU took the next two matches to get to the deciding fourth point. Sophie Whittle had pushed the lead to 2-1 with her 6-2, 6-4 win on No. 1 over 77th-ranked Erica Oosterhout, and then Tsuruta and Kate Ketels became the deciding factors.
Tsuruta gave GU a 3-2 lead with a 6-3, 7-5 win on No. 5 and Ketels clinched the match with an identical scoreline on No. 6.
GU has one more Spring Break match in Northridge, scheduled Friday at 10 a.m. against Fresno State.
