
Women's Tennis Takes Down Fresno State, 5-2

Gonzaga got off to a great start in doubles clinching the point with the first two matches and then pushed the lead to 3-0 before Fresno State notched a victory. The Zags then took the final two matches of the day with the clinching point from Haruna Tsuruta on No. 5.
"It's a great way to finish spring break and our non-conference schedule," head coach D.J. Gurule said. "Doubles was huge for us this week. We are excited to play San Diego at home next weekend."
In doubles, Graciela Rosas and Sophie Whittle faced off against Fresno State's duo of Emma Wilson and Georgia Lawson, wo are ranked No. 27 in the nation. GU's pair dominated the match with a 6-0 win. The Zags' Alex Bourguignon and Haruna Tsuruta then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on No. 2.
In singles, Whittle again led the way with another dominating performance on No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Kate Ketels added a 6-4, 6-3 win to push the GU lead to 3-0. After Fresno State won on Nos. 2 and 4, Tsuruta clinched the win with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 comeback victory. Nevada Apollo added the final victory with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory on No. 3.
GU will be back on the court in West Coast Conference action their next time out against San Diego on March 25 at 11 a.m. at home at the Stevens Center.
