Volleyball Remains Winless In WCC Play

SPOKANE, Wash. - Saint Mary's College (21-2, 10-1 WCC) set a school record for wins on Saturday night while the Gonzaga University Bulldogs remained winless in West Coast Conference action after the 13th-ranked Gaels picked up a 3-0 win over the Bulldogs (4-21, 0-11 WCC). Saint Mary's combined for a .353 team attack percentage during the 30-21, 31-29, 30-17 win.
Melissa Stidham picked up 16 kills to lead four Saint Mary's players into double-digits. Freshman Becky Jones was the Bulldogs top attack on the night with 10 kills as the Bulldogs picked up half of their 36 kills during the game two loss. Lindsey Bogason followed Stidham with 15 kills while Cassandra Kolkka and Mariko Coverdale each had 13 for SMC.
Jones was also a force at the net for GU finishing with five blocks including two solos. Briawna Mueller also had five block assists as Gonzaga finished with 12 team blocks. The Gaels had 17 blocks on the night led by Stacey O'Connor with five block assists. The Bulldogs Jessica Herrera picked up her 24th-match of the season with double-figure digs finishing with a team-high 13. Kaui Salzman led all players with 18 for Saint Mary's.
Gonzaga will host Loyola Marymount University and Pepperdine University next weekend to wrap up home conference play. Both matches start at 7 p.m. at Martin Centre with Saturday night's match against Pepperdine serving as the Bulldogs senior night.
