HOME SWEET HOME: The Gonzaga University women's soccer team looks to continue its four-game home win streak as they host West Coast Conference foes University of San Francisco and Saint Mary's College this weekend. First on Friday, Oct. 17, the Bulldogs host San Francisco at 3 p.m. on Martin Field as they seek their first WCC victory. Gonzaga then hosts Saint Mary's on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.
BROKEN RECORDS: The Gonzaga University women's soccer team continues to make strides towards breaking team and individual records all throughout the book. The team has tied the 1997 squad with most wins in a season at eight. The Bulldogs also established the longest win streak in program history with five-consecutive wins (9/26-10/10). Junior Annie Hawkins has moved up in the ranks, tied for third with 10 goals on the season, tied for third with 21 points this season, third with 36 career points, and is only the second Gonzaga woman in history with a hat trick under her belt. Junior Walker Loseno also moved up to tied for fourth with five assists on the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Haugen moved up with a 1.40 goals against average to claim the singles season record.
WITH A WIN...: With a win over University of San Francisco or Saint Mary's College, the 2003 Gonzaga University women's soccer team will be set apart as the winningest team in program history with nine wins on the season. Also, they would earn only the third West Coast Conference win by the women's soccer program since they joined the WCC in 1993. With a win over San Francisco, the Bulldogs would continue their four-match home win streak.
CREATING HER OWN STILE: Head coach Shannon Stiles continues to make her mark on Gonzaga University and West Coast Conference athletics as she enters her fifth year with the Bulldogs. As the first female head women's soccer coach in the history of the WCC, Stiles also became the Gonzaga career coaching leader in victories as she collected her 16th career win with a 1-0 victory over the University of Idaho (10-31-02). Stiles made history as the Bulldogs won its first season opener since the program came into existence in 1991 with a victory over Portland State University on Aug. 29th. Stiles looks to continue the Bulldogs' success as the team drastically improved from a 0-15-2 finish in 2001 to a 6-13-0 record at the end of the 2002 season, and the 2003 team has tied the eight-game program record for most wins in a single season.
SCOUTING THE DONS: The Gonzaga University women's soccer team begins home West Coast Conference play on Friday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. as the Bulldogs play host to University of San Francisco. The Dons travel to Martin Field on a three-game losing streak with previous losses to California State University, Sacramento, San Diego State University and Saint Mary's College. The losses dropped San Francisco to a 4-9 record on the seasonu. The Dons return senior midfielder Shannon Allen, who received All-WCC Honorable Mention honors for both the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Allen has started all ten of her appearances and notched an assist. The Dons also look towards freshman forward Shuree Hyatt to lead the team. Hyatt leads the squad with six goals and four assists, for a total of 16 points. Hyatt has started all 12 of her appearances.
BULLDOGS VS. THE DONS: Gonzaga University and the University of San Francisco look to their 11th meeting in program history. The Gaels return ten of the 11 starters from their 2002 starting lineup including senior forward Lucianne Crenshaw, a three-time All-WCC honoree. Crenshaw leads the team in assists with six, as well as scoring one goal for the season. The Gaels also boast freshman forward McKenna Belzer from Boise, Idaho. Belzer has notched three goals and one assist for seven points for Saint Mary's.
