Three double digit scorers lead Zags over Seattle

SPOKANE, Washington- Gonzaga Volleyball (4-6) defeated Seattle (3-5) by winning three straight sets after dropping the first set on Thursday. Seattle won up the first set 25-20 before GU won each of the ensuing sets by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-18.
First set had five total aces in total, with Maggie Rickert and Claire Wagstaff each scoring an ace to nearly match Seattle's three aces. Â Seattle used an additional 14 kills to eventually secure the set.
The Zags had a 6-0 run in the second set to take the lead at the media timeout. The rally was powered by another two aces by Rickert. The Zags hit for .300 percentage in the second set, with another 14 kills complimenting the aces to tie the match after two.
 GU took the third set in a similar fashion thanks to a 7-1 run that included kills from 4 different Zags. The Bulldogs had a game high 18 kills in the set as they terminated balls efficiently to take match lead while winning the set's final point on an ace by Taylor Walsh.
After a back and forth rally that had 8 different attacks, the Zags won a point on a Wagstaff kill to cut the score to 20-19 in the fourth set to get the crowd in the Martin Centre going and force another SU timeout. Dani Clewis and Taylor Walsh had a huge block out of the timeout to tie the set. The Zags iced the game with another ace to win a set, this time from Veronia Sorensen.
Three Zags had double digit kills tonight, as Wagstaff led the game with 19 and four aces. Sorensen and Raechelle Dykstra each had 11 kills. Dani Clewis had 42 assists to lead the match.
Gonzaga will return to Martin Centre on Friday when they take on North Dakota State at 6 p.m.
