Bulldogs earn second straight Pac-12 win

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga women's soccer picked up its second straight Pac-12 Conference win with a 2-0 victory over Washington State at Luger Field Saturday.

Gonzaga (7-6-2, 2-2-0 Pac-12) outshot the Cougars 17-13, with a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Washington State (5-5-3, 2-2-0) held 55 percent of the possession. Both teams took five corner kicks.

In the 33rd minute, Brooke Metcalfe scored her fourth goal of the season, and third in the last two games, off a corner kick from Makayla Werner. Metcalfe slid a shot inside the near post for Werner's second assist of the season.

Amelia Severn found the back of the net for the eighth time this season in emphatic fashion in the 55th minute. Sienna Jenson intercepted a pass and sent the ball ahead to Severn, who took advantage of the Washington State goalkeeper being out of position and scored from nearly midfield.

Severn, who leads the conference in shots (46) and shots on goal (29), took four shots Saturday. She ranks second in the Pac-12 with eight goals. Samantha Snorsky took a game-high six shots and ranks fourth in the conference with 41 shots this season.
