Baseball Powers Past Pacific 13-4

The Zags collected 12 hits, fueled by a grand slam from Rece Schuerman to win big on Saturday

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga baseball has now won nine of their last ten games, defeating Pacific 13-4 on Saturday at Patterson Baseball Complex. The Bulldogs tallied 12 hits, led by a grand slam from Rece Schuerman and a solo shot from Mikey Bell in game two to clinch the series win.

Gonzaga (11-13, 4-1 WCC) moves into a tie for first place in the West Coast Conference, while Pacific (10-18, 0-5 WCC) drops their eighth straight game.

Starting pitchers Miles Gosztola (W, 2-5) and Adan Perez (L, 4-2) battled early, but the offense of both teams came alive midway through the contest on Saturday. Already leading 1-0, GU broke things open in the fourth on Schuerman's grand slam. Pacific would not go quietly, answering with four of their own in the top of the fifth to make it 5-4 Gonzaga.

The Bulldogs proved too much, adding a run in the fifth, four in the sixth, and three in the eighth to pull away for good while Garrett Gores and Karsten Sweum combined for four hitless innings in relief, striking out six.

Three Bulldogs collected multiple hits on Saturday, with Ty Yukumoto (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI), Josh Hankins (2-for-5, 2 R), and Jacob Wrubleski (2-for-3, 3 R, RBI, SB) leading the offensive surge.
