Women’s Cross Country Places Fifth in Minnesota

Manley leads GU with 19th place finish
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gonzaga women's cross country team totaled 182 points and finished in fifth at the 2019 Roy Griak Invitational Saturday.
One of the largest meets in the country, the Roy Griak Invitational welcomed teams from all over the nation in its 34th year. The Zags competed well with an elite field, placing in the top-five as a team.
Claire Manley led GU with a 19th place individual finish with a time of 22:00.4. The junior moved up 18 spots over the final kilometer of the 6K race.
Freshmen Brittney Hansen and Alyssa Bienfang were 56th and 57th. Both Hansen and Bienfang crossed the line at 22:59.8. The Zags finished strong as a team, as every GU runner sustained their placing or moved up over the last kilometer.
Cal Baptist placed first as a team, followed by Columbia and Minnesota. San Francisco's Aoible Richardson won the women's race at 20:47.7.
The Gonzaga women have off until the Inland Empire Classic on Oct. 12. The Bulldog men are next at the Joe Piane Invitational on Oct. 4, in Notre Dame, Ind.

The Bulldogs' Grace Fahrney (22:35.9), Emily Phelps (22:36.1) and Ally Legard (22:36.6) finished well as a pack placing 37th, 38th and 39th. Natasha Bernal was close behind in 49th at 22:45.8.
