Gonzaga Men Among Elite Field Friday

Zags run at prestigious Joe Piane Invitational
SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's cross country team runs at the 64th annual Joe Piane Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind., Friday.
The elite meet has six races, including the Men's Blue Division race which the Zags run in. Notre Dame hosts 51 schools, including 42 men's teams and 47 women's teams. The Joe Piane Invitational has been one of the country's most elite regular-season meets for years.
Fifteen of the 23 teams in Friday's Blue Division race appear in the latest national poll, including No. 4 Colorado.
Gonzaga is currently ranked seventh in the USTFCCCA West Region poll, and is receiving a vote in the national poll.
The Zags have opened the season with back-to-back first-place finishes. GU defended its team title at the Cougar Classic on Sept. 13. James Mwaura repeated as individual champion with a time of 24:07.4. The Bulldogs' Peter Hogan was fourth at 24:37.3 and Phillip Fishburn was fifth with a time of 24:39.6. Gonzaga's Luke Mason (24:45.2) placed 10th and Ciaran O'Leary (24:57.2) was 15th.
The Bulldogs last appeared in the meet in 2014. GU placed 13th as a team, led by a 37th place by Nick Roche. The Zags were ninth at the event in 2006.
