Three Zags finished in the top 10 for the tournament
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – Gonzaga women's golf took home the team title with three players in the top 10 at the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Tuesday.
The win in windy, cool conditions at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course is GU's first team tournament victory of the season and first since April 2014 at The Gold Rush.
"It is super satisfying to win with a young, excited group," head coach Brad Rickel said. "The strength of this team is that all five could be our best player on any round, any day. I love how they fought off the teams trying to catch them in the final round today."
Senior Jessica Mangrobang led the way, finishing in a tie for third overall with her final-round 76 (+5) alongside teammate and freshman Alyssa Nguyen's identical three-over total. Nguyen shot a final-round 72, which was tied for the best round by a Zag on the day.
Sophomore Federica Torre also posted a final-round 72 (+1) and finished with her first-career top-10 in a tie for eighth at +5 for the tournament.
Sophomore Quynn Duong and freshman Cassie Kim each posted a six-over 77 on the final day with Duong placing in a tie for 13th overall at +7 and Kim placing in a tie for 29th at +11 overall.
For the tournament, Gonzaga led the field in Par-3 scoring at +4 and Par-5 scoring at -4. Individually, Mangrobang went -2 on the Par 3s and Torre went -7 on the Par 5s.
Gonzaga has a three-week break before returning to tournament play at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational on Oct. 14-15 in Tacoma, Wash. Check GoZags.com for links to live scoring.
