Pelluer Invitational: The Bulldogs return to the Pelluer Invitational. The three-day meet opens with heptathlon and decathlon competitions Thursday and Friday, while the first running events begin with the women's steeplechase Saturday at 1 p.m. The meet is named after Arnie Pelluer, who contributed to the success of Eastern Washington Track and Field. GU joins Eastern Washington, Whitworth, Lewis-Clark State, Whitman, partial teams from Idaho and WSU.
Last season at the meet: Scott Kopczynski led a top-four sweep by the Zags in the men's 1,500 meters. GU had eight of the Top-10 times in the event, paced by Kopczynski's 3:49.88. His time ranks seventh on the program's all-time list. Mason Villarma (3:50.79), Brandon Pollard (3:51.48) and Stefan Bradley (3:54.00) were second, third and fourth … In the men's 5,000 meters, Fraley had the winning time of 15:19.19. Coby Eastwood came in fifth at 16:11.47 … Five Bulldogs placed in the Top-10 in the women's 800 meters led by Claire Gillett's second place finish at 2:24.03. Sarah Hawley was fourth with a time of 2:29.66 … Katherine Gustafson came in second in the women's steeplechase with a time of 12:14.86. In the men's steeplechase, Ben Hogan placed second at 9:43.53 … In her first attempt in the event, Caroline McCarthy crossed the line in third in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 18:39.81. In the women's 1,500 meters, Ally Legard was fifth at 4:53.39.
Last Time Out: In the men's 5,000 meters at the Northwest Scoring Clash Yacine Guermali opened the evening for the Zags with a first-place finish time of 14:51.85, ahead of teammate Phillip Fishburn's 14:57.60 second-place finish … Four Bulldogs placed inside the Top-10 in the 10,000 meters, and all finished with personal records. O'Leary led the pack in first at 31:03.34. Dominic Arce was fourth with a time of 31:35.02 … In the men's 800 meters, Brandon Pollard crossed the line in first at 1:53.20. He was followed by Scott Kopczynski's 1:56.44 eighth place finish … Alex Walde held off teammate Ben Hogan for the 3,000-meter steeplechase title.
