Magruder tied for 18th entering final round
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Gonzaga men's golfer Charlie Magruder is tied for 18th after the second round of the Loyola Intercollegiate on the Palms Course at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
Magruder is one-over (145) after two days. He went two-over (74) in Round 2, making four birdies and eight pars. The sophomore is four-under (4.50) on the course's Par-5 holes.
Brentt Salas is one-under (2.88) on the Par-3 holes, and is tied for 10th playing as an individual. He has a two-round total of 144 (E), following a 70 (-2) in the second round. The freshman eagled the second hole, made two birdies and 13 pars. He started the round on Hole 10, and went three-under on the front nine.
Matthew Ruel was one-under (71) in Round 2. He made three birdies and 14 pars Sunday. The Oldsmar, Fla. native is four-over (148) and tied for 36th. Chris Mogg and Holden Backes are both tied for 44th at five-over (149). Mogg carded a 69 (-3) in the second round, while Backes was five-over (77). Mogg made five birdies on Day 2. Tyler Munetake (T92nd, +12) was six-over in Round 2.
The Zags remained in ninth place. Gonzaga was three-over (291) as a team Sunday, and is 13-over (589) entering the final round.
"We faded a bit down the stretch today, but we got off to a better start and had it going early," GU Head Coach Robert Gray said. "Like yesterday, a lot of good things to take into our round tomorrow. Both Chris and Matt bounced back well from yesterday, posting solid rounds under par today. We're getting better each day and that's always a good thing. Brentt played a great round, getting himself in 10th place. Another good day tomorrow and he'll have his best collegiate finish. He's been really steady both days."
Elon has a one stroke lead over Loyola (MD) for first place. Elon is five-under (571) going into the final day. Loyola's Evan Brown remained atop of the leaderboard after a 68 (-4) in the second round. He is nine-under (135) after two rounds. He has a six stroke lead over the field.
