Zags face Dons for first time this season

THE TIP-OFF
- Gonzaga and San Francisco will meet for the 69th time in program history and the 33rd time in Spokane. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.
- Prior to Gonzaga's 70-68 loss at BYU on Jan. 17, the Zags has posted a program-best 16-1 start. However, the current 17-2 mark is only the second of program history. The Bulldogs were also 17-2 during the 2004-05 season. That season, the Zags posted a program-best 23-game win streak and finished the season 28-4 overall with an unblemished 14-0 mark in WCC play. Gonzaga advanced to the second round of the WNIT, losing at Missouri State 85-66 to end the season.
- The Bulldogs currently lead the WCC in six categories: Scoring defense (58.3 ppg), scoring margin (+15.9, T-20th nationally), field goal percentage defense (37.4%), 3-point field goal percentage defense (28.0%), rebounding defense (30.5 rpg) and rebounding margin (+3.3). The Zags also rank second in seven categories: free throw percentage (73.9%), field goal percentage (45.1%), 3-point field goal percentage (36.9%), steals per game (9.5), turnover margin (+3.4), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1) and offensive rebounding percentage (39.7%).
- Gonzaga is ranked for the eighth-straight week after entering the polls at No. 24/22 on Dec. 3. Following their 97-71 win over Portland on Jan. 12, the Bulldogs moved up to 13th in the AP Poll on Jan. 14. It's the program's highest ranking ever; currently Gonzaga is ranked No. 18 following a 70-68 loss at BYU and 86-61 win at San Diego last week.

- In the last meeting, Gonzaga defeated San Francisco 65-53 in the semifinals of the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas. The Bulldogs finished with two players in double-figures, led by Jill Barta with 19 points and 10 boards, and limited the Dons to 35.6 percent shooting from the floor and won the rebounding battle 42-38.
SCOUTING SAN FRANCISCO:
- The Dons are 5-13 overall on the season with a 1-6 mark in WCC play. Through 18 games, USF averages 68.8 points per game shooting 44.7 percent from the floor, good for third overall in the WCC.
- San Francisco is currently on a six-game losing streak after picking up their first conference win against San Diego on Dec. 29. Since their conference-opening win, the Dons have scored an average of 62.1 points per game for a -12.5 scoring margin. USF's worst conference loss was a 29-point deficit at Pepperdine on Jan. 12 as it fell 69-50.
- Two players average double-figures for San Francisco, led by senior guard Shannon Powell with 16.6 points per game shooting 48.9 percent from the floor. Both of those marks rank in the top 10 in WCC play as her 16.6 points per game ranks third and her 48.9 percent shooting ranks eighth. Freshman forward Julia Nielacna also averages double-figures with 11.4 points per game.
- Powell also leads the Dons in rebounding with 6.0 rebounds per contest, assists (4.44 per game) and steals (0.51 per game).
- Currently, San Francisco ranks sixth or lower in every WCC statistical category but free throw percentage (4th, 72.6%), field goal percentage (3rd, 44.7%) and defensive rebounds (5th, 24.8).
BACK TO THE PACKED HOUSE
It's no secret that Gonzaga is one of the top programs in the nation for attendance, and currently the Zags rank second overall in attendance percent capacity. On average, Gonzaga pulls in 5,587 fans per game for a 93.12 percent capacity. That number trails only No. 1 Notre Dame at 93.18 percent capacity. In the WCC, Saint Mary's is the next closest program in percent capacity at 17.01 percent. In the Pac-12, Oregon State and Oregon are the closest, averaging 54.38 and 52.29 percent capacity while Montana of the Big Sky averages 44.55 percent capacity.
DROPPIN' DIMES
Laura Stockton has been a consistent passer all season, averaging a team-high 4.3 assists per game. That mark also ranks sixth in the conference. She's finished with at least four assists 12 of 19 games this season, and she's delivered at least six assists four different times. Most recently, she dished out a career-high 10 assists in GU's 86-61 win at San Diego on Jan. 19, moving her career assists mark to 413 to average 3.62 assists per game. Currently, she's 27 assists shy of surpassing Amy Simpson (439 assists).
SHOTS FIRED, AND MADE
Currently, Jill Townsend and Zykera Rice are shooting over 52 percent from the floor for the season. Townsend leads the Zags and ranks second in the WCC shooting 54.6 percent from the floor, while Rice ranks fifth in the conference shooting an even 52.0 percent. Townsend's numbers currently rank third all time for field goal percentage in a single season behind Sheri McNeal (1st, 57.6%) and Kayla Standish (2nd, 56.0%).
MOVING ON UP
Laura Stockton dished out a career-high 10 assists in GU's 86-61 win at San Diego. Stockton now has 413 career assists to rank fourth all-time in GU history. She is 27 assists short of third place; former Zag Amy Simpson claims the third spot with 439 career assists. Currently, Stockton leads the team and ranks sixth in the conference with 4.3 assists per game. If she continues at that rate, it will take her less than seven games to move into third all time.
KEEPING THE STREAK ALIVE
Katie Campbell is currently on a 17-game streak with at least one three-point field goal. Through the first 19 games, Campbell is 42-83 from long range and is shooting 50.6 percent to lead the Zags. Campbell's 50.6 percent also leads the nation.
