THE TIP-OFF
- Gonzaga and San Diego will meet for the 68th time in program history and the 34th time in San Diego. Gonzaga holds a 44-23 advantage in the series and are currently on a five-game win streak.
- The Bulldogs suffered their first conference loss this week with a 70-68 loss at BYU. The loss snapped a 12-game win streak for GU; the last loss on the Bulldogs' record was an 81-65 loss to No. 1 Notre Dame on Nov. 22.
- Prior to BYU, the Zags has posted a program-best 16-1 start. However, their 16-2 mark is only the second of program history. The Bulldogs were also 16-2 during the 2004-05 season. That season, the Zags posted a program-best 23-game win streak and finished the season 28-4 overall with an unblemished 14-0 mark in WCC play. Gonzaga advanced to the second round of the WNIT, losing at Missouri State 85-66 to end the season.
- Gonzaga is ranked for the sixth-straight week after entering the polls at No. 24/22 on Dec. 3. Following their 97-71 win over Portland on Jan. 12, the Bulldogs moved up to 13th in the AP Poll on Jan. 14. It's the program's highest ranking ever, surpassing the previous high of #14, which was set on Jan. 7 of this season.

Series Notes: Gonzaga and San Diego meet for the 68th time in program history and the 34th time in San Diego. The series dates back to the 1986-87 season when the Bulldogs bested the Toreros on the road, 64-60. The Zags opened the series with four straight wins before San Diego claimed a 51-46 in over the Bulldogs in San Diego during the 1988-89 season. The two squads have met at least twice a season since the 1988 season.
- The Bulldogs have faced San Diego four times in post-season play: 2008, 2009, 2013, 2018. All four of those meeting have been in the tournament championship. Gonzaga carries a 3-1 record in those games; the only game San Diego won was in 2008 when the Toreros hosted the WCC tournament.
- In the last meeting, San Diego opened the game with a 25-point first quarter to lead 25-20, but the Zags responded with a 25-point quarter of their own in the second while limiting the Toreros to just 15 points to take a 45-40 halftime lead. Jill Barta exploded in the second half, scoring 20 of her game-high 32 in the final 20 minutes. Zykera Rice added 17 points and Emma Stach 14 to seal the 79-71 win and punch their ticket to the NCAA tournament.
SCOUTING SAN DIEGO:
- The Toreros are 8-10 overall this season with a 1-6 mark in WCC play. USD finished the nonconference slate with 7-4 overall mark with wins over Hawaii, Cleveland State, San Diego State, Dartmouth, Long Beach State, San Bernardino and San Jose State. USD put together a four-game win streak from Nov. 28 to Dec. 10 during the nonconference slate.
- As a squad, the Toreros average 63.1 points per game (8th in WCC) shooting 40.2 percent from the floor (7th in WCC). Two players average double figures for USD, led by Patricia Brossman at 12.1 points per contest. Madison Pollock also averages double figures with 11.1 points per contest. Both Brossman and Pollock also lead USD in rebounding with 7.9 and 5.8 rebounds per game, respectively.
- Currently, USD is on a five-game skid after opening conference play 1-1. In the past five games, USD has averaged just 54.8 points per contest while giving up an average of 73.0 points per contest.
- The Toreros rank second in the conference in rebounding offense (39.6 per game), and third in rebounding defense (33.9). They crash the offensive glass hard as they lead the conference in offensive rebounds per game (15.6) and rank third in assists (15.2 per game).
