Women's Soccer Victorious in Home Opener

SPOKANE, Wash. - Junior midfielder Sarah Hawkins scored a goal and an assist in Gonzaga University's women's soccer 4-1 win over the University of Idaho in the Bulldogs' first home match of the season on Friday afternoon.
Idaho scored it's first and only goal of the match as Ashley Cox shot the ball into the upper right corner of the net with the assist credited to Alyson South. The 15th minute goal went past Bulldog sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Haugen.
Less than one minute later, the Vandals scored on their own goal, to even the scoreboard for Gonzaga, 1-1.
In the last minute of the first half, Sarah Hawkins gave Gonzaga the lead, 2-1, with a header scored from a deflection from Stacey Sarro after a Bulldog corner kick.
To start the second half, Gonzaga's Beth Drollinger scored in the 52nd minute off a pass from Sarah Hawkins. Drollinger's first goal of the season went past Vandal goalkeeper Lindsay Smith.
To finalize the Bulldog victory, Annie Hawkins scored her fourth goal of the season in the 74th minute of play. Annie Hawkins took a pass from Ashley Pryor and confronted the keeper Smith in a one-on-one situation which gave Gonzaga the lead and final score, 4-1.
The Bulldog's led the shots column with 14, while the Vandals only notched three on the game. Gonzaga keeper Haugen and 78th minute substitution Brooke Longacre were both credited with no saves. Idaho keeper Smith notched six saves while 84th minute replacement did not make any.
The Bulldogs return to Martin Field on Tuesday, Sept. 23 to face Brigham Young University at 2 p.m.
