Santa Clara Sweeps Men's Tennis, 7-0

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team dropped its sixth consecutive match as the Bulldogs fell to West Coast Conference rival Santa Clara University, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at SCU Tennis Center. The Bulldogs know stand at 2-11 on the season and have lost all three matches against WCC schools.
With bad weather threatening Santa Clara easily sweeped two of the three doubles matches by scores of 8-0 and 8-2. The two schools did not finish the No. 2 doubles match by agreement of both schools as Santa Clara was leading 7-4 when the other two doubles matches were clinched to win the point.
In singles action freshman Bryce Cooper, playing in the No. 1 slot was the only Gonzaga player to challenge for a point as he lost 6-3 and 7-6 with 3 tie-breaker points. Only two other Gonzaga players, Drew Ernst and Robert Penney, won three games in any of their action.
The Bulldogs finished their Spring Break trip to California with an 0-6 record. GU will return to action on March 28-30 when the team travels to Portland to face Linfield College, UC Riverside and the University of Portland.
