FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The University of Cincinnati (5-5) defeated the Gonzaga University volleyball team in three games during the opening match of the 2002 Coors Classic at Colorado State. The Bearcats swept the match by scores of 30-11, 30-26, and 30-24. Gonzaga (1-9) will face tournament host No. 25 Colorado State on Saturday morning before facing Nevada in their final in-season tournament match on Saturday afternoon.

Gonzaga rebounded in the second game taking an early 17-14 lead behind the solid play of Natasha Kozen, who had three kills to spark the GU run. After falling behind Gonzaga again rallied for a 23-23 tie. Julie DuPont then hammered home four straight kills to lift Cincinnati to the game win.
Game three again started close as Gonzaga tied the score at 15-15 on two Bearcats attacking errors. Gonzaga closed to within 22-21 on a kill by Christina Davis but could get no closer as DuPont scored two of Cincinnati's final three points in the match sweep.
