Logan Law sets 8k program record at Lakefront Invite

CHICAGO- Gonzaga Cross Country had a great result at a competitive Lakefront Invite on Friday morning, with the women's team taking 6th place and the men's team taking 7th place amidst a national field.
Logan Law had an especially strong run, setting a new program record in the 8k with a time of 22:54.86. Law finished in fifth overall in the race to put himself on the national radar for Cross Country. "This result was a big time confidence booster for Logan Law!" said Coach Pat Tyson. "Law handled the race well and did well by going out really hard".
All five of the finishing scorers for the men's cross country team finished in under 24 minutes, with the top four scorers moving into the program record book with today's results. Ryan Mitchell ran the fifth fastest 8k in program history with a 23:20.73 finish. Dylan Rowell and Logan Schwartz moved into sixth and seventh in program history with respective finishes of 23:23.21 and 23:29.73. Dylan Weniger rounded out the scoring five in 23:29.73.
Only three runners in program history (James Mwaura, Yacine Guermali and Wil Smith) had ran a time below 23:30 prior to today's race, which saw four Zags beat the benchmark time. The men's cross country team finished ahead of two ranked teams, beating teams representing #11 Wisconsin and #13 Washington. "The team learned a lot today! They are excited to keep growing and progressing as we prepare to head to the biggest collegiate invitational of the year in two weeks at Nuttycombe" said Tyson.Â
Audrey Orme led the women's team in the 6k with a 19:48.08 race, running the fifth fastest 6k in program history in just her second collegiate race. She was joined in the program record books by fellow freshman Sloan Dickson, who ran a time of 19:56.98 to set the seventh fastest 6k time in GU women's cross country history. Charlotte Dillon ran a 20:09.44 time for a twenty second improvement over her previous personal best time, which was set at the same meet last year. Maria and Emma Taggi Padro rounded out the scoring for the Zags as the sisters ran respective times of 20:25.12 and 20:28.24.
The Zags will return to Spokane to take on the Frank Knott Invite on October 3rd. Â Gonzaga will return to the Midwest to take on the Nuttycombe Invite on October 9th. Â
