Saint Mary’s Evens Series With 6-5 Win Over Gonzaga

Three two-run innings for the Gaels were enough in game two

SPOKANE, Wash. – Saint Mary's and Gonzaga battled once again on Saturday, but the Gaels emerged with the close 6-5 win in game two at Patterson Baseball Complex and Coach Steve Hertz Field.

A late change for Saint Mary's (27-23, 11-9 WCC) pitted Dylan Delvecchio (W, 4-3) against Miles Gosztola (L, 5-7), with Delvecchio coming away with the win after seven innings of work. Gonzaga (23-23, 14-6 WCC) was able to quiet the Gaels' bats via Justin Feld, who threw five strong innings in relief while striking out six with just two runs allowed.

A trio of two-run innings for Saint Mary's made the difference on Saturday. Aiden Taurek and Ryan Pierce each hit home runs to lead the charge, while five Gaels recorded multiple knocks as part of a 13-hit effort.

Mikey Bell was the GU leader once again, notching a pair of doubles with two runs batted in. Tommy Eisenstat checked in with his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth to bring the Bulldogs back within two.

As they did on Friday, Gonzaga made things interesting with a ninth inning rally, but ultimately fell short. Derik Eaquinto (S, 3) entered in the eighth and earned a six-out save, allowing just two runs on three hits and picking up a strikeout.
