MTEN Falls to No. 23 Pepperdine, 4-0

Zags (9-9, 1-4) host No. 7 San Diego tomorrow

SPOKANE, Wash. – After claiming a heavily contested doubles point, No. 23 Pepperdine defeated Gonzaga men's tennis 4-0 on Saturday at the Stevens Center.

The Bulldogs (9-9 overall, 1-4 WCC) won one doubles match but were outlasted in the other two. Jay Fairclough/Oscar Rashed fell 6-1, then Giovanni Branchetti/Kai-Luca Ampaw prevailed 6-4. The nationally ranked Waves (13-8 overall, 3-1 WCC) notched the doubles point by withstanding Gus Krauel/Diego Herrera 6-4.

In singles, Pepperdine dropped Ampaw (6-3, 6-1), Herrera (6-1, 6-3), and Tom Dunlop (7-5, 6-1) to clinch the overall match. The dual ended with Branchetti and Rashed each in their third set, while Fairclough battled in his second.

UP NEXT: The Bulldogs continue WCC play with a home dual against No. 7 San Diego at 10 a.m. tomorrow (April 13). For those unable to attend, live video and stats will be available at GoZags.com. Gonzaga closes the regular season at No. 75 Santa Clara on April 19.

- Gonzaga men's tennis is 9-9 overall and 1-4 in WCC play this spring season, with wins against Eastern Washington (twice), Seattle (twice), Montana State, No. 69 Montana, UC San Diego, SDSU, and Portland.
- The Zags have dropped four straight after winning five out of six matches.
- Pepperdine is now 13-8 overall and 3-1 in WCC play.
- Pepperdine is ranked No. 23 on this week's ITA team rankings, landing as high as No. 19 in March.
