SPOKANE, Wash. – BYU continued its hot hitting on Saturday, completing the sweep over Gonzaga with a 17-8 win at Patterson Baseball Complex.
Gonzaga (2-7) was first to score Saturday afternoon, but an 11-run inning from BYU (7-4) in the fourth was the difference in the series finale.
In total, the Cougars tallied 40 runs in the series on 38 hits, including ten home runs. Leadoff hitter Crew McChesney was 3-for-4 on Saturday with three doubles, four runs batted in and two runs scored. Ryder Robinson followed McChesney with a 2-for-6 day adding four RBI of his own from the two-spot.
Mikey Bell continued his hot weekend, batting 2-for-5 on Saturday with an RBI double and a run scored in the Zags' three-run first.
Josh Hankins was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Payton Knowles, in his second start of the season, clubbed his first home run with a solo shot in the sixth.
GU battled late, adding single runs in the sixth and seventh before plating three in the eighth. BYU quickly negated the Zags' eighth inning with a three-run home run from Cooper Vest before closing our the series sweep.
Garrison Sumner (W, 2-0) earned the win for BYU, pitching six innings while allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking zero.
Justin Feld (L, 0-2) was the losing pitcher on Saturday, allowing five runs in three and one-third innings.
The Zags have now lost eight consecutive home games dating back to May of 2024, marking the longest home skid since 2012 where they lost six straight.
