Baylor Defeats Baseball 5-2

WACO, Texas – Baylor pitching continued to quiet Gonzaga bats at Baylor Ballpark as the Bears clinched the series on Saturday with a 5-2 victory. The Zags will look to salvage the series in Sunday's finale at 10 a.m. PST.

Despite early traffic for both teams in the opening two frames, Baylor (6-0) would eventually strike first with three runs in the bottom of the third. Gonzaga (1-4) starter Miles Gosztola (L, 0-2) found himself in trouble after the first five runners reached base safely, but managed to work out of the jam with three straight outs to limit the damage.

After a shutout loss in the series opener, the Bulldog offense looked to respond quickly on Saturday. Vincent Temesvary wore a pitch from Baylor Starter Bryson Bales, and Mikey Bell followed with a double to open the fourth. Then, Ty Yukumoto poked a single up the middle to score both runs and cut the BU lead to one.

Baylor quickly answered in the bottom half. Cortlan Castle led off with a single, and Tyriq Kemp drove him home with a double to chase Gosztola. The Zags turned to Finbar O'Brien, who quieted the Baylor offense over their final five innings, allowing just one run on one hit and striking out five.

However, the Bears would match O'Brien, as Lucas Davenport (W, 1-0) and Gabe Craig (S, 1) combined for five shutout innings, allowing just two total baserunners to cap off the 5-2 win and improve to 6-0.
