
Zag Women Finish Second at WCCAA Meet

Armbruster, Machu collect event wins
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Gonzaga Women's Track & Field opened up their outdoor season at the San Francisco State-hosted WCCAA Meet on Saturday, placing second overall in the team score with Ellie Armbruster and Rosina Machu both claiming individual event wins in the 400m and 3000m.
GU's 75 team points were second only to San Francisco's 82-point outing, beating out Saint Mary's, Santa Clara and host San Francisco State.
GU's 4x400m relay squad also placed first overall, with Alyssa Bienfang, Ellie Armbruster, Taylor Biondi and Anna Lanigan combining for a 4:05.44 time. In the 4x800m relay, a GU squad comprised of Kate Donaldson, Anna Grabowski, Makenna Edwards and Sadie Tuckwood took third with a 9:15.73 time.
Armbruster finished the 400m in 58.58 seconds to earn 10 points for the Zags, with Machu crossing the finish line in the 3,000m in 9:29.45 in her event win.
Behind Machu, Kate Donaldson (sixth, 9:57.43) and Sadie Tuckwood (seventh, 10:02.56) and Makenna Edwards (10th, 10:05.69) all cracked the event's Top 10.
Three Zags placed in the Top Four in the Women's Mile, with Ireland Robertson leading the way with a second-place 5:02.60 finish. Alyssa Bienfang (third, 5:03.7) and Anna Lanigan (fourth, 5:05.74) were just behind in third and fourth, respectively.
Alicia Anderson and Caramia Mestler both showed out in the 800m next, with Anderson placing second (2:13.09) and Mestler (2:14.95) fourth ahead of Brittney Hansen (seventh, 2:18.19) and Taylor Biondi (11th, 2:30.09). Jorun Downing placed third in the 2000m Steeplechase, finishing in 7:37.56. Alexis Knight finished fifth overall in the 100m dash (13.38s) and eighth in the 200m (28.00s) as the Zags' sprint specialist.
