Gonzaga ties for seventh as a team at 19-over
KAPOLEI, Hawaii – Gonzaga's Carys Baek placed fifth at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on the Kapolei Golf Course Wednesday.
In the final event of the fall season for the Bulldogs, Baek finished five-under, matching the fourth-lowest 54-hole total in program history at 211. She has consistent rounds of 70 (-2), 71 (-1), and 70 (-2) in the tournament. Her first round featured 13 pars, two birdies, and a hole-in-one on the Par-3 eighth hole. The junior made 13 pars in Round 2, with three birdies, before 14 pars and three birdies in the final round. Baek's 40 pars in the event were the fourth-most in the 95-golfer field.
Grace Lee was close behind in a tie for eighth at three-under (213). She was second in the field with 41 pars. The Bellevue, Wash., native, carded 70s (-2) in the first and third rounds, with a 73 (+1) in Round 2. She made 17 pars during her second round.
The Zags tied for seventh as a team at 19-over (883). GU was fourth among the 16 teams with 175 pars. The Bulldogs had their lowest round Wednesday with a 292 team total (+4).
Esther Yoo (T60) and Taylor Mularski (T71) were 12-over and 17-over. Yoo made three birdies and 12 pars in her final round of 73 (+1). Darby Rickel was 89th at 30-over (246).
Baylor cruised to the team title at 20-under (844). The Bears were 13-under (275) in Round 3. New Mexico State and UC Davis tied for second at one-under (863). Baylor's Rosie Belsham and CSU Fullerton's Davina Xanh were co-medalists at seven-under (209).
Gonzaga opens its spring slate at the Trailblazer Invitational hosted by Utah Tech. The 54-hole event will be played at the Green Springs Golf Club in St. George, Utah, Feb. 11-13.
