Garcia Runs Second Fastest 1,500 in GU History

Zags shine at Sam Adams Classic in Spokane
SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga's Kristen Garcia ran the second-fastest 1,500-meter time in women's program history at the 2021 Sam Adams Classic Saturday. In perfect conditions on Boppell Track at the Pine Bowl at Whitworth University, the Bulldogs ran to impressive finishes against regional competition.
Two weeks after shattering the program's 5,000-meter record, Garcia nearly set a new 1,500-meter mark. Her 4:26.92 finish Saturday, was the fastest run by a Zag since Lindsey Drake set the program record of 4:17.79 in 2013. Ally Legard and Claire Gillett were right behind Garcia's second place finish in third and fourth at 4:32.90 and 4:38.71. Idaho's Malaina Thacker won the event with a time of 4:25.09.
In the men's 1,500 meters, Luke Mason (3:57.69), Dominic Arce (3:58.49) and Stefan Bradley (4:02.28) finished third, fourth and sixth.
The GU men swept the top three spots in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Ben Hogan took first at 9:16.65, followed by Alex Walde (9:23.22) and Cullen McEachern (9:26.12). Liz Hogan was second in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 11:04.05, the fourth-ranked time in program history.
Morgan Greene improved her own No. 6-ranked time in GU history in the 800 meters. She placed fourth Saturday at 2:16.29, besting her 2:16.82 time from two weeks ago. Alyssa Bienfang's 2:17.47 sixth-place finish, ranks ninth in program history. In the 200 meters, Grace Dalton improved GU's third-best time. She crossed the line at 26.88 at Whitworth.
Evan Bates ran the eighth-fastest men's 5,000-meter time in program history. He led a top three sweep for the Bulldogs, along with five GU finishers in the Top-10. Bates' winning time of 14:11.97, was just ahead of second-place finisher Yacine Guermali's 14:12.74 time. Peter Hogan was third at 14:18.82. Riley Moore (14:45.92) and Kyle Radosevich (14:53.04) were sixth and ninth.
Six Bulldogs finished in the Top-10 of the women's 3,000 meters, led by Alicia Anderson's winning time of 9:58.07. Brittney Hansen (10:05.08) and Lauren Haas (10:14.11) were second and third. Sadie Tuckwood (10:27.03) and Grace Fahrney (10:28.23) were sixth and seventh. Emilee Groth came in fifth place in the women's 400-meter hurdles at 1:06.59.
