Mwaura Breaks 5,000-meter Record

Four of top six 5,000-meter program-best times run Friday
EUGENE, Ore. – Gonzaga's James Mwaura ran the program's fastest 5,000-meter time at the Oregon Relays. Four of the top six 5,000-meter program-best times were ran at the meet Friday.
Mwaura crossed the line in eighth in the event with a time of 13:36.18. Yacine Guermali's 13:52.54 finish ranks third in program history. He placed 15th in the race. Peter Hogan was right behind in 16th at 13:58.36, which ranks fifth at GU all-time. Evan Bates ran the sixth-fastest time in program history at 14:00.57.
In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Ben Hogan placed fourth at 8:58.45, the fourth-fastest at GU all-time. Cullen McEachern (9:09.10) and Alex Walde (9:10.87) ran personal bests placing seventh and eighth. McEachern's time is No. 10 on the GU all-time list.
