Zags tee off 2021 campaign at Nick Watney Invitational
SPOKANE, Wash. — After 349 days, the Gonzaga men's golf team returns to tournament play at the Nick Watney Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
The Zags are scheduled to play in six tournaments before the 2021 West Coast Conference Championships this spring. GU has two events in February, three in March and two in April.
The Nick Watney Invitational, hosted annually by Fresno State, is usually a tournament in the fall. Last season, Matthew Ruel led Gonzaga with a 21st place finish at three-under. The Bulldogs placed 11th as a team at nine-over.
Gonzaga returns plenty of experience to its 2020-21 roster. Ruel is back for his redshirt senior season. He played in all five events in 2019-20, and had a team-low 72.43 scoring average. His career average is at 74.34.
Zach Stocker also played all 14 rounds last season, with an average of 73.64. Chris Mogg also returns as a graduate student this year. He's played in 63 rounds as a Zag, with a career average of 76.48.
