PULLMAN, Wash. – Gonzaga women's golf wrapped up play in 13th as a team at the WSU Cougar Cup on Tuesday in Pullman, Wash.
Playing the Par-72 Palouse Ridge Golf Course, Gonzaga played the final 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament and held their spot in the team standings with a 302 (+16) on the day. Freshman Cassie Kim shot the best score of the day for the Zags with a one-over 73 and placed a team-high 40th overall at +5.
"We had a lot of positives from the first event of the year," head coach Brad Rickel said. "This is the strongest field we'll play the entire season, and the freshmen got their first taste of the collegiate 54-hole grind. Everyone contributed, and it's obvious we are going to be a strong team that will grow leaps and bounds as the year goes on."
Sophomore Quynn Duong shot a six-over 78 to place 53rd overall at +9 for the tournament, while freshman Alyssa Nguyen shot 80 to finish +10 and in 55th.
Sophomore Federica Torre shot a solid 75 (+3) to finish in 60th at +11, while senior Jessica Mangrobang was 74th at +14 after her final-round 76 (+4).
Kim had a team-best nine birdies on the tournament, while Torre and Nguyen each had eight in 54 holes. Kim played the par-5s in two-under for the tournament as well.
Gonzaga will be back on the course on Monday and Tuesday next week, hosting the Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Check GoZags.com for links to live scoring on Golfstat.
