GU posted a red-hot seven-under 277 in Round 1
CORNVILLE, Ariz. — Gonzaga women's golf torched the first round of a 36-hole day on the way to the team lead after two rounds at the Red Rocks Invitational in Cornville, Arizona.
Playing the Par-71 Agave Highlands Golf Course, GU combined to shoot a seven-under 277 in the first round that featured 19 total birdies. Then even with the winds kicking up, the Zags followed up with an eight-over 292 to hold onto the team lead by four shots over Cal State Fullerton.
Individually, GU has three players in the top 10, including Quynn Duong at three-under for the day and Federica Torre and Jessica Mangrobang, who each sit at even par.
"It was a great morning round by the entire team, Federica and Quynn were seven-under combined," head coach Brad Rickel said. "The afternoon got very windy and difficult. I thought Jessica's 69 in the afternoon was an awesome round. We look forward to the challenge tomorrow."
Torre had the team's best first round, firing a four-under 67, the low round of the spring season for any Gonzaga player. She followed up with a four-over 75 to sit in a tie for ninth.
Duong is the GU leader on the day, shooting a three-under 68 in the first round and an even-par 71 in the second to sit in a tie for fifth at three under overall.
Mangrobang posted Gonzaga's low afternoon round, following up a first round 73 (+2) with a two-under 69 to move to even par and in a tie for ninth.
Francesca Santoni factored in the team score as well, shooting an even-par 71 in the first round and a six-over 77 in the second round.
Gonzaga will be back on the course at Agave Highlands for the final round on Sunday morning. Links to live scoring are available at GoZags.com.
