Hogan moved to sixth all-time in the 3,000 meters
SEATTLE — Inclement weather forced dramatic changes to the original two-day Husky Classic. Despite the shortening of the meet into a one-day classic, the Gonzaga men's track team showed well inside the Dempsey Center.
Scott Kopczynski improved his third-best time in program history in the men's mile. The senior placed 19th with a time of 4:06.19. Brandon Pollard was close behind in 24th at 4:06.91. Mason Villarma finished at 4:14.11.
In the men's 3,000 meters, Yacine Guermali crossed the line in 21st place with a time of 8:06.38. Peter Hogan's time was 8:13.72. Hogan climbed from eighth to sixth in program history.
Jake Perrin capped off the day with a 14:16.47 finish in the men's 5,000 meters. He placed 43rd in the event.
"I'm proud of these guys," Director of GU Track and Field Pat Tyson said. "They woke up at 6 a.m., went to the airport, and got over to Dempsey on short notice! They all ran very tough! You could tell they all lacked a little zip, but they fought! Remember, they had to adapt workouts in Spokane all week too as temperatures were in single digit to low double digits this week, with snow on the track. All of these tough conditions will pay off for these guys. Big things ahead for them this spring!"
The GU women run in the Bronco Challenge Saturday. Monica Ripple opens the day for the Bulldogs in the 5,000 meters at 9:10 a.m. Pacific. Live results will be available on GoZags.com.
