
Novilla In Fifth Place After Second Round At WCC Championships

SANTEE, Calif. - Nina Novilla improved her opening round score by one stroke on Tuesday and enters the final round on Wednesday tied for the fifth at the West Coast Conference Championships at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, Calif.
Novilla fired a 74 on Tuesday in the second round to sit +5 overall. She went +1 on each side with a birdie and two bogeys on each nine. She is four strokes off the leaders, Kendra Dalton and Rose Huang of BYU, as Dalton led with a three-under round on Tuesday. She is fourth in the field on par-three holes at +1 and +4 on the par-four holes. She ranks second with 25 pars in two days. Novilla improved on her career-low round of 75 at the WCC Championships she set on Monday. She holds the highest position of any Zag entering the final round since Ciera Min led after two rounds in 2015.
Diana Araneta joined her in the top-10 on Tuesday with a 75 to sit at +11 in 10th. She was +3 on the front on Tuesday, but erased a bogey with a birdie on the par-five 13th to go even on the back nine. It marked her best round at the WCC Championships, in this being her first appearance.
Jessica Mangrobang struggled on Tuesday, but thanks to her first round 73, she is still in 13th place at +13 overall. Francesca Santoni improved on her first round Tuesday with a 79. She is in 19th place at +16 in her first time in the event.
The Zags fell back one spot to fourth and are +45, but still 10 strokes ahead of Santa Clara and eight strokes behind San Francisco. Pepperdine leads at +24. The Bulldogs lead the field by 11 strokes on the par-four holes at +19.
